Getting started
Timenor on the iPad
From version 1.9.1, Timenor makes use of the iPad's width: a sidebar, several columns and lists with a detail view – in portrait and landscape. All features are the same as on the iPhone.
What is different on the iPad #
Timenor is an app for iPhone and iPad. On the iPad, Timenor arranges content side by side instead of stacking it as on the iPhone. Which view you see depends on the width of the window, not on the device: if the window becomes narrow, for example in Split View, Timenor shows the familiar iPhone view.
- Overview – two columns: timer, today's status and monthly progress on the left, the week and your recent entries on the right.
- Projects, All Time Entries and More – list with a detail column.
- Calendar and Analytics – calendar in large format, analytics as a grid with all figures.
- Keyboard shortcuts – for timer, time entries, absences and projects.
Projects with a detail column #
In the “Projects” tab, the project list is on the left and the selected project on the right, with client, billing mode and hourly rate. Below that you see the figures “Raw Time”, “Billable”, “This Month”, the number of bookings and – if an hourly rate is set – the estimated revenue. These are followed by all bookings of the project, grouped by day.
- Tap a project on the left to show it on the right.
- “Edit” at the top right opens the familiar form (see Projects).
- Tap a booking to edit it.
Edit bookings next to the list #
Under More › “All Time Entries”, tapping a booking opens the entry to the right of the list, provided there is enough space. Use “Save” or “Cancel” to close the column again. If the window is too narrow for this, the entry opens in a separate window as on the iPhone.
More and settings in two columns #
In the “More” tab, the list stays on the left and the selected page opens on the right – initially “Time Tracking”. “Holidays”, “Absences” and “Export” open as a large window in the centre, as does “Show All” under “Recent Entries” in the Overview. The “Work Profile” opens as a smaller window, like the other forms.
Calendar in large format #
The week view uses the full width, so bookings stay easy to read even for short entries.
In landscape, the month view shows the day detail alongside, and the weeks fill the full height. In portrait, the day detail is below, with more space than on the iPhone.
Analytics as a grid #
The six figures – Raw Time, Target, Billable, Revenue, Period Balance and Cumulative Balance – appear in three columns. Timeline and Project Overview, as well as Locations and Absences, each appear side by side. What the values mean is explained under Analytics.
Keyboard shortcuts #
With a connected keyboard – such as the Magic Keyboard – these shortcuts work as long as the relevant area is visible:
| Shortcut | Action | Area |
|---|---|---|
| ⌘ ↩ | Start or stop the timer | Overview |
| ⌘ N | Add Time Entry | Overview |
| ⇧ ⌘ N | Add Absence | Overview |
| ⌥ ⌘ N | New Project | Projects |
This feature works in the background and has no screen of its own.
Split View, Slide Over and Stage Manager #
Timenor also runs alongside other apps. In a narrow window – Split View with little space, or Slide Over – you see the iPhone view with the tabs at the bottom. If you drag the window wider, Timenor switches to the view with columns.
This feature works in the background and has no screen of its own.
Using iPhone and iPad together #
You buy Timenor Pro once. On the second device with the same Apple Account, tap “Restore Purchases” on the Pro screen (see Timenor Pro).
Timenor does not sync data between iPhone and iPad: each device keeps its own projects and bookings. To transfer a copy from one device to the other, use the iCloud backup or a backup file.
